Trustee Matthew Kink Re-elected

Participant Trustee Election Update

The FPIF Board of Trustees and its staff congratulate Trustee Matthew Kink on his reelection as a Participant Trustee. The FPIF Election Panel has deemed him elected after he qualified for the ballot without opposition. His four-year term will begin on January 2, 2025.

Matthew Kink serves as the Board Secretary of the FPIF Board of Trustees. Matthew has served as a Participant Trustee on the FPIF Board of Trustees since its inception in January 2020. 

Matthew has been a member of Springfield Firefighters Local 37 since January 2012. During his time with the Springfield Fire Department, Matthew served the department and Local 37 in several capacities. He served four years with Springfield’s Foreign Fire Insurance Board, served as the Treasurer and Shift Steward for Local 37, and currently serves as a Captain with the Springfield Fire Department. Matthew has served on the Springfield Firefighters' Pension Fund since 2017 and currently serves as the Board President. The Springfield Firefighters’ Pension Fund has assets over $180 million.

Matthew received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance with honors from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2003. Furthering his studies, he earned a Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Creighton University in 2006.

Matthew is licensed to practice in law in Illinois and prior to joining the Springfield Fire Department, he was Senior Counsel for an Information Technology/Software Corporation. Most recently, Matthew advised clients on tax, estate planning and elder law with an estate planning law firm.

Matthew and his wife, Lynn, have two children, Ava and Joseph. In his free time, Matthew enjoys running and spending time with his family.
